Valley of Tempi
The Valley of Tempi is an extensive narrow valley of the Pinios River, characterized by high rocky slopes, steep declivities, wooded slopes, a riverside forest, and maquis. This valuable woodland, holding the natural springs of Agia Paraskevi, is situated between the Lower Olympus massif and Mount Ossa. From a geological point of view, the area contains carbonate rocks, schistose, serpentine and gneiss. It also displays limestone-bearing crags, gallery forests harboring Salix alba and Populus alba, forests consisting of Oriental planes (Platanion orientalis) and evergreen oaks (Quercus ilex).
